O'Neill Honoured With Pool Naming

Australia's Madam Butterfly Susie O'Neill will take centre stage at the 12th FINA World Championships, as Victorian Premier Steve Bracks ended weeks of speculation about who the championship pool at Rod Laver Arena would be named after.

Six days from the start of competition, Mr Bracks announced Ms O?Neill had beaten a top-line field of contenders for the honour, including swimming superstars Ian Thorpe, Kieren Perkins, Samantha Riley, Tracey Wickham and Petria Thomas.

"This is the first time in the history of the FINA World Championships that the main competition pool has been named after a sporting great," Mr Bracks said.
