Nick Driebergen sets Dutch Record during Amsterdam Swim Cup

AMSTERDAM - The fifth edition of the Amsterdam Swim Cup on 14 ? 16 April 2006 was highlighted by the National Record of Nick Driebergen at the 50m backstroke. His 25.95 was one of six pool records set during the meet in the Sloterparkbad in Amsterdam, that served as one of the two Dutch qualifying meets for the European Championships.
Driebergen also bettered the pool record in the 100m backstroke with 56.33, making him the premier backstroker for the Dutch squad for the Europeans in Budapest this summer. Spanish swimmers Marco Rivera (8.04.61) and Arantxa Ramos (8.47.46) set records in the 800m freestyle, while Panagiotis Glykos from Greece broke the 1500m (15.37.18). Hinkelien Schreuder qualified for Budapest setting a record in the 200m IM (2.17.11).

Infection Confines David Davies To Dry Land

David Davies, Olympic bronze medal winner over 1,500m freestyle and Commonwealth champion in Melbourne in March this year, will be out of the water for the next month after a foot infection required surgery. Doctors treating the 21-year-old, who is coached by Dave Haller in Cardiff, believe that the infection has been dormant for some weeks. Heavy training left Davies vulnerable to illness. The Welshman is in the midst of preparations for the European Championships in Budapest from July 16 but is optimistic that his time out of water will not affect his long-term prospects.
