Infection Confines David Davies To Dry Land

David Davies, Olympic bronze medal winner over 1,500m freestyle and Commonwealth champion in Melbourne in March this year, will be out of the water for the next month after a foot infection required surgery. Doctors treating the 21-year-old, who is coached by Dave Haller in Cardiff, believe that the infection has been dormant for some weeks. Heavy training left Davies vulnerable to illness. The Welshman is in the midst of preparations for the European Championships in Budapest from July 16 but is optimistic that his time out of water will not affect his long-term prospects.
